Dr. Jerónimo Monterrubio R. studied Medicine at the University of Monterrey (UDEM) where he was awarded one of the highest honors for a student: the CUM LAUDE award.
Committed to the values of his alma mater, he performs his Undergraduate Internship at the Christus Muguerza Group, in addition to rotations abroad, at the Germans Trias i Pujol Hospital in Barcelona in pediatric surgery, and at the Royal London Hospital in London in Hepatobiliary & Pancreatic Surgery. Later he joined the ranks of the Adelaida Lafón Foundation to carry out his social service, one of the most important social causes of Grupo Christus Muguerza.
Passing the National Medical Residency Examination, he continued his postgraduate studies in General Surgery at the University of Monterrey-Grupo Christus Muguerza, where he was chief resident and where he acquired training in general surgery, and also, basic and advanced laparoscopy, in addition to Clerkships and international courses of Minimally Invasive Surgery and Surgery for Obesity at the prestigious Thorton Hospital of the University of California San Diego (UCSD), and at the European Institute of Telesurgery (IRCAD) in Strasbourg, France.
It has stood out for its interest in altruistic medical work, therefore he founded in 2005 the award-winning association of UDEM: YATIM (Young altruists thinking in Mexico) which has been present for over 10 years making multidisciplinary brigades in communities and rural areas of scarce resources in Nuevo León and Mexico, for which he has been nominated for the State Youth Award and received the appointment of Exemplary Citizen on 2 different occasions. In addition, for his career he was recognized as one of the “45 Stories of Success” of the UDEM.
Dr. Monterrubio has multiple publications in congresses and international journals on general surgery and bariatric surgery. He is an active member of the Mexican College of Surgery for Obesity and Metabolic Diseases A.C. (CMCOEM), member of the board of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES), scientific reviewer of the international Surgical Endoscopy surgery journal and following his passion for teaching also serves as adjunct professor of the specialty of General Surgery at the University of Monterrey-Grupo Christus Muguerza.
